At least 2,00 athletes take part in the race, which will include national and international runners. All is set for the Ngorongoro half marathon, an athletic race held annually in Karatu, a short distance from the famous Ngorongoro crater.
The Meta Sports Promotions and SOS Children’s Village are sponsoring the event. The Race Director, Meta Petro, said this year has seen a high turnout of participants compared to the past years, attributing this to public awareness. Until last year, the first ten winners in each of the three athletic races – 21 kilometers, 10Km , 5 km and 2.5km – are awarded cash and other prizes.
This year, the number of those eligible for awards has been increased to 15, he said, making a total of nearly 50.The 21km race will start from the gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and end up at a sports stadium in Karatu town.
